The City of Canada Bay, located just 6 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD, encompasses seventeen suburbs and a thriving population of 91,000 residents. As the area continues to grow, the need for safe, efficient cycling infrastructure has become increasingly important. Council recognised this need and sought to create an action plan that would transform the local cycling network, making it safer and more accessible for all users.
ptc. was engaged by the City of Canada Bay Council to review and update their previous bike plans, delivering a comprehensive plan for the whole Local Government Area. Serving as a strategic blueprint for future cycling infrastructure investments, the project was divided into two key stages:
- East-West Regional Route – the first output of the project was to develop thus route. It provides vital regional connectivity between North Strathfield and Henley Marine Drive (The Bay Run).
- Overall Bike Plan – the second stage focused on creating an overarching bike plan for short and long-term implementation across the entire local government area.
Our approach included community and stakeholder engagement to ensure the plan reflected local needs and priorities. We conducted assessments of street amenities and constructability, analysing how proposed routes would connect to key land uses throughout the area. This methodology ensures the Bike Plan not only enhances safety and convenience for cyclists but also integrates seamlessly with Canada Bay’s broader transport network.
