Tesla S travels across US for free

The Tesla S electric car is in the media again, this time for taking one of its enthusiasts, John Glenny, across the country at no cost.  As reported in BRW, Glenny and his daughter travelled from New York to Los Angeles in just five days, via Tesla’s network of Supercharger stations where they were able to refuel the vehicle at no cost.

Free access to the 70+ supercharger stations is part of the deal when you buy a Tesla S, a core component of the Tesla business strategy according to CEO, Elon Musk.   The Tesla website provides addresses, maps, opening hours and a list of nearby amenities for the expanding network.  “Superchargers provide half a charge in as little as 20 minutes and are strategically placed to allow owners to drive from station to station with minimal stops.”  Further expansion of the Supercharger network is planned, with Tesla aiming for coverage of 98% of the US (by population) within two years.
