Newcastle City Council plans to raise parking meter fees

Meanwhile, on the other side of Sydney, Newcastle City Council has announced a review of their parking policies, including parking fees, as part of a coastal Masterplan. Newcastle CBD has had paid parking in place for many years now, but the Masterplan is also proposing to extend paid parking to the beaches. Newcastle City Council also wants to replace many of its ageing or vandalised meters, and is reviewing parking supply and demand to see if more meters are needed.

The Council is proposing in its soon-to-be-released fees and charges schedule for 2010-11, price increases for on-street spaces and parking stations. To enforce the new zones and pricing, they are also planning to deploy extra officers to crack down on  infringements in the suburbs.

The plan is currently included within the coastal Masterplan, currently being exhibited for public review and consultation at a range of community centres in Newcastle as well as online.
