Enhancing pedestrian safety and mobility across Willoughby

Pedestrian and Mobility Plan

Located on Sydney’s Lower North Shore just six kilometres from the CBD, Willoughby City Council recognised the need to improve pedestrian access and safety across their local area.

ptc. was engaged to develop a Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) focusing on two critical routes: a 500-metre section of Willoughby Road in Naremburn and a 1.75-kilometre stretch of Sailors Bay Road in Northbridge. This strategic planning initiative aimed to address community concerns while creating a safer, more connected pedestrian network for residents and visitors.

Our team conducted detailed route auditing along both selected corridors to identify existing deficiencies in pedestrian infrastructure. We facilitated stakeholder and community engagement processes, ensuring local voices were heard and community concerns were addressed in our recommendations.

Using advanced GIS mapping technology, we documented current conditions and proposed improvements with precision. Our experts developed a detailed works schedule that prioritised improvements based on safety needs, connectivity benefits, and community impact. The plan included cost estimations to support Council’s budget planning and funding applications.

The PAMP serves as a strategic roadmap, enabling Willoughby City Council to systematically enhance pedestrian safety, convenience, and mobility while making informed investment decisions for infrastructure improvements.
