Civil engineering for a new forensic mental health facility at Concord Hospital

Civil Engineering Design Services to Concord Hospital NSW

The recently opened Burudyara forensic mental health facility is located adjacent to Concord Hospital, expanding on the existing forensic rehabilitation services available on campus. A partnership between Health Infrastructure and Sydney Local Health District, the facility provides 18 medium secure forensic beds and 24 low secure forensic beds across a purpose-built two-storey building, alongside clinical support spaces, staff facilities, and dedicated outdoor areas for consumers. The project forms part of the $700 million capital works component of a broader program of reforms to the state’s mental health services.

ptc. was engaged across two stages of the Burudyara facility’s delivery, providing civil engineering services from initial design through to construction.

While assisting Acor on behalf of NSW Health Infrastructure during design phases of the project, ptc. provided civil engineering design advice including related to stormwater, grading, pavements and layout.

Our engineers identified the need to adjust floor levels for the sloping site. Resolving the floor levels early prevented future issues with waterproofing and the interface with existing batters and footpaths. This was particularly important given the facility’s integration into an established hospital campus.

ptc. was subsequently engaged by Built to deliver traffic and civil engineering advice during construction phase. The scope included a Construction Traffic Management Plan and civil detailed design to Occupation Certificate. Support to Built included responses to RFIs and site inspections.
