Opening to the public on 19 January 2026, the new Sydney Fish Market represents a $700 million investment in world-class architecture piece. Designed by 3XN in collaboration with Sydney firms BVN and Aspect Studios, the development will establish a new iconic destination in Pyrmont.
The project required traffic infrastructure upgrades to safely accommodate the increased activity from suppliers, customers, and the public visiting this major waterfront precinct.
As part of our overall involvement in the project and engagement by Multiplex, ptc. prepared the Traffic Signal Design (TCS) for the new Sydney Fish Market, delivering for-construction traffic signal plans for the Bridge Road and Wentworth Park Road intersection.
The existing three-way unsignalised intersection was remodelled into a four-way signalised intersection to incorporate access to the new Fish Market basement and loading dock. Our team prepared the complete intersection design, including line marking, signage, and geometry associated with the TCS works.
We coordinated closely with the civil and landscape design teams to prepare plans for Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) approval and construction implementation.
Our work also included assessing pick-up and drop-off capacity for different user groups (buses, taxis, and rideshare services). We utilised the TfNSW Walking Space Guide to ensure that all pick-up and drop-off areas are suitable for the expected pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
We provided design assistance for the pick-up and drop-off area, and pedestrian and cycle facilities, which were then incorporated into the civil and landscape drawings for construction.
As part of the Construction stage scope, our team also prepared the Construction Traffic Management Plan for both the new Fish Market and Bridge Road upgrades, as well as providing ongoing traffic engineering advice throughout the construction process.
ptc. has been involved with the new Fish Market redevelopment since design development stage. We were engaged initially by Infrastructure NSW (formerly Urban Growth) to provide design advice in relation to the car park, loading dock, and site access. Later we were engaged by Multiplex to continue assisting with safely accommodating suppliers and customer’s vehicles within the site. Read more: New Sydney Fish Market Case Study.
