Christmas culminates in car park crashes

It’s that time of the year again. With traffic jams
and available parking spaces in shopping centres at a premium in the lead-up to
Christmas, patience is often not the only casualty in congested car parks.

Motor vehicle claims data from NRMA Insurance show that car park crashes in NSW jumped 20 per cent above the national average last
December, with typical collisions involving reversing into cars, runaway
shopping trolleys and scrapes with pylons and columns.

Of all the NRMA claims last year, one in seven were
for accidents in car parks, with Thursdays the most likely day of the week for
a crash. On average, there are around 250 claims each year for damages due to
shopping trolleys.

In light of these figures, we hope all of our readers
have a safe shopping and parking experience this holiday season!
